“ Just ate at Fred's for lunch the second time this week. I had shrimp with string beans earlier in the week and shrimp with vegetables today. Both meals with very delicious! The hot and sour soup was better than I've had at other restaurants. The main courses were served piping hot. The steamed rice had a touch of coconut flavor which made it unique. The egg roll was delicious and not oily. The orange slice added a nice touch. Rebecca, one of the servers, was very pleasant. Of the Chinese restaurants I've dined at in the area, Fred's is my favorite. I plan to return again soon. ”
“ We were in Nevada City in July of 2024, we loved this little town and since we love to visit dive bars, we went to mind shaft, and were hungry, we ordered food at the Chinese Restaurant next door, Fred's. It was so very good. We came back this last weekend to the Victorian Christmas, we had to eat at Fred's twice. It's that good! Good old comfort Chinese food. Low grease, pure yum. Not fancy smancy, just good Chinese food. Will always eat here if I am in the area. ”
“ Food service price is always good. Fred always remembers us! The won ton soup is the best. ”
“ Love FRED'S It is the best around! Have a drink at the connected Mine Shaft Tavern!! You will be back again and again! ”
“ All the stir fry dishes I have tried were good. However, the stand out and a hidden gem of this place has to be the Tiki Bar style cocktail menu. That is what bumps it from 4 (pretty good Chinese food) to 5 stars. Where else can you get a flaming bowl of tropical goodness big enough for 2? The Leilani Volcano is fruity and delicious and flaming!!! It reminded me of the now closed Tonga Room Tiki Bar in San Francisco or Trader Vic's in the Bay. I have yet to try their Mai Tai but their exotic drink menu is definitely worth a look for something unique to this area. To continue the flaming theme, try the Flaming PoPo platter to sample all their appetizers. This is a no frills Chinese restaurant with very little ambience..... so very reminiscent of many SF Chinatown places as well. The 5 stars is not for the ambience so be forewarned. ”
“ Their dishes are all really good here but I love their mushu veggie. This is my go to spot when I'm craving Chinese food ”
“ The best Chinese food I have had in a while. The generals chicken is one of a kind and the dinner combination plate is an incredible deal! ”
“ Fred is definitely not the nicest person but I think he kind of goes with the vibe of this place. I absolutely love the eggplant. It's one of my favorites, but they definitely do close early and will not be flexible so make sure you're on time. It's a very useful area and there's lots of bars and makes for a good dinner before you go out. I believe the bar next-door serves the food from Fred's. ”
